Experimental study on slurry-induced fracturing during shield tunneling

摘要: Facial support in slurry shield tunneling is provided by slurry pressure to balance the external earth and water pressure. Hydraulic fracturing may occur and cause a significant decrease in the support pressure if the slurry pressure exceeds the threshold of the soil or rock material, resulting in a serious face collapse accident. Preventing the occurrence of hydraulic fracturing in a slurry shield requires investigating the effects of related influencing factors on the hydraulic fracturing pressure and fracture pattern. In this study, a hydraulic fracturing apparatus was developed to test the slurry-induced fracturing of cohesive soil. The effects of different sample parameters and loading conditions, including types of holes, unconfined compressive strength, slurry viscosity, and axial and circumferential loads, on the fracturing pressure and fracture dip were examined. The results indicate that the fracture dip is mainly affected by the deviator stress. The fracturing pressure increases linearly with the increase in the circumferential pressure, but it is almost independent of the axial pressure. The unconfined compressive strength of soil can reflect its ability to resist fracturing failure. The fracturing pressure increases with an increase in the unconfined compressive strength as well as the slurry viscosity. Based on the test results, an empirical approach was proposed to estimate the fracturing pressure of the soil.

Numerical simulation on flow of ice slurry in horizontal straight tube

摘要: Numerical simulation on flow of ice slurry in horizontal straight tubes was conducted in this paper to improve its transportation characteristics and application. This paper determined the influence of the diameter and length of tubes, the ice packing factors (IPF) and the flow velocity of ice slurry on pressure loss by using numerical simulation, based on two-phase flow and the granular dynamic theory. Furthermore, it was found that the deviation between the simulation results and experimental data could be reduced from 20% to 5% by adjusting the viscosity which was reflected by velocity. This confirmed the reliability of the simulation model. Thus, two mathematical correlations between viscosity and flow velocity were developed eventually. It could also be concluded that future rheological model of ice slurry should be considered in three sections clarified by the flow velocity, which determined the fundamental difference from single-phase fluid.

天然气水合物是固体包裹化合物,由三维的氢键网络组成,可以用来捕获气体小分子,比如甲烷和二氧化碳。了解溶液中天然气水合物晶体的流变性能对于许多能源方面的应用至关重要,包括天然气在海底和陆地上的运输,以及气体分离、脱盐或封存等方面的技术应用。人们已经对水合物浆体流变学进行了多次实验和模型模拟;然而,理论与实验之间的联系并不明确。本文讲述了对高、低压流变仪的研究以及在高压流动环境下,一系列不同的过冷度(ΔTsub = TequilTexp)和流体条件的水合物浆体黏度测量技术的现状(包括水和油的连续系统)。本文介绍了天然气水合物泥浆相对黏度的理论模型,还讨论了实验和理论之间的联系。

Effect of different high viscosity modifiers on rheological properties of high viscosity asphalt

摘要: High viscosity asphalt (HVA) has been a great success as a drainage pavement material. However, the larger porosity of drainage asphalt mixtures weakens the cohesion and adhesion and leads to premature rutting, water damage, spalling and cracking. The purpose of this study was to investigate the rheological properties of HVA prepared using different high viscosity modifiers through conventional tests, Brookfield viscosity tests, dynamic shear rheometer tests and bending beam rheometer tests. The conventional performance results demonstrated SBS + rubber asphalt (SRA-1/2) exhibited excellent elastic recovery and low-temperature flexibility. The 60°C dynamic viscosity results indicated TPS + rubber asphalt (TRA) had the excellent adhesion. The rotational viscosity results and rheological results indicated that SRA-2 not only exhibited excellent temperature stability and workability, as well as excellent resistance to deformation and rutting resistance, but also exhibited excellent low-temperature cracking resistance and relaxation performance. Based on rheological results, the PG classification of HVA was 16% rubber + asphalt for PG76-22, 20% rubber + asphalt for PG88-22, TRA and SRA-1/2 for PG88-28. From comprehensive evaluation of the viscosity, temperature stability and sensitivity, as well as high/low temperature performance of HVA, SRA-2 was found to be more suited to the requirements of drainage asphalt pavement materials.

New approach to determine the plastic viscosity of self-compacting concrete

摘要: The rheology of concrete is best measured with the use of a rheometer. The slump flow test gives a good indication of the flowability of the mixture and is therefore still used extensively to judge the workability of SCC mixtures. However, this test presents some defects. The objective of this paper is to develop a new methodology for measuring the workability of a SCC. In this article, we have proposed a correlation between the plastic viscosity of concrete, the time and the characteristics of the flow final profile from the V-funnel coupled to a Plexiglas horizontal channel. The proposed approach, verified by experimental results, represents a simple, economical and usable tool on building site, and it allows to characterize rheologically the SCC from its flow. The comparison between our approach and the experimental values of the plastic viscosity shows that, in a laboratory or on site, instead of using a rheometer we can use our approach to characterize the rheological behavior of a SCC.

Kinetic study of hydrodesulfurization of coker gas oil in a slurry reactor

摘要: Coker gas oil (CGO) is a poor-quality feedstock for fluidized bed catalytic cracking (FCC) or hydrocracking. The pretreatment of CGO, especially hydrotreating, can significantly improve the product quality and protect the catalyst. In this work, we studied the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of CGO in a slurry reactor. All the experiments were carried out in an autoclave using a NiMo/Al O catalyst at reaction temperature 340°C–400°C, pressure 6–10 MPa, and stirring speed 800 r·min , with hydrogen-to-oil ratio in the range of 500–1500. The effects of the operating parameters on the desulfurization ratio were investigated and discussed. A macro reaction kinetic model was established for the HDS of CGO in the slurry reactor.

Experimental study on the stratum applicability and mechanisms of bubble–slurry for earth pressure balance

摘要: Soil conditioning is essential for addressing the stratum applicability problem of earth pressure balance (EPB) shields. Under high water pressures, EPB shields spew water and soil when excavating coarse-grained strata. Typically, foam combined with polymers and slurry is used to solve spewing. However, in current techniques, slurry, foam, and the other agents are mixed with soil separately, their synergistic effect is seldom realized. In this study, an anionic surfactant was used to foam in bentonite slurry to form bubble–slurry to maximize the synergy between bubbles and slurry. The slump, volume stability, and permeability test of bubble–slurry-conditioned sand was conducted to examine the conditioning effect, and the stratum applicability of bubble–slurry was determined from the perspective of permeability. It was found that the conditioning effect of bubble–slurry in coarse gravel soil was excellent and could expand the applicability of EPB shields. The main stabilization mechanism of bubble–slurry is that bentonite particles provide a space barrier for bubbles. And three seepage modes of bubble–slurry-conditioned sand were innovatively defined, and the occurrence conditions of the three seepage modes were analyzed according to the permeability coefficient of sand, initial dynamic shear force of bubble–slurry, and hydraulic gradient.

A critical review of ash slagging mechanisms and viscosity measurement for low-rank coal and bio-slags

摘要: Gasification or combustion of coal and biomass is the most important form of power generation today. However, the use of coal/biomass at high temperatures has an inherent problem related to the ash generated. The formation of ash leads to a problematic phenomenon called slagging. Slagging is the accumulation of molten ash on the walls of the furnace, gasifier, or boiler and is detrimental as it reduces the heat transfer rate, and the combustion/gasification rate of unburnt carbon, causes mechanical failure, high-temperature corrosion and on occasions, superheater explosions. To improve the gasifier/combustor facility, it is very important to understand the key ash properties, slag characteristics, viscosity and critical viscosity temperature. This paper reviews the content, compositions, and melting characteristics of ashes in differently ranked coal and biomass, and discusses the formation mechanism, characteristics, and structure of slag. In particular, this paper focuses on low-rank coal and biomass that have been receiving increased attention recently. Besides, it reviews the available methodologies and formulae for slag viscosity measurement/prediction and summarizes the current limitations and potential applications. Moreover, it discusses the slagging behavior of different ranks of coal and biomass by examining the applicability of the current viscosity measurement methods to these fuels, and the viscosity prediction models and factors that affect the slag viscosity. This review shows that the existing viscosity models and slagging indices can only satisfactorily predict the viscosity and slagging propensity of high-rank coals but cannot predict the slagging propensity and slag viscosity of low-rank coal, and especially biomass ashes, even if they are limited to a particular composition only. Thus, there is a critical need for the development of an index, or a model or even a measurement method, which can predict/measure the slagging propensity and slag viscosity correctly for all low-rank coal and biomass ashes.

Study on direct alcohol/ether fuel synthesis process in bubble column slurry reactor

摘要: The recent studies of direct alcohol/ether synthesis process in slurry reactors were reviewed, and the research work in our laboratory was carried out in this paper. a global kinetics model for direct dimethyl ether (DME) synthesis from syngas over a novel Cu-Zn-Al-Zr slurry catalyst was established according to the total of 25 experimental data, and a steady-state one-dimensional mathematical model was further developed in bubble column slurry reactor (BCSR), which was assumed that the bubble phase was plug flow, and the liquid phase was fully mixed flow. The numerical simulations of reactor design of 100000 t/a dimethyl ether pilot plant indicate that higher pressure and lower temperature were favorable to the increase of CO conversion, selectivity of dimethyl ether, product yield and height of slurry bed. The optimal operating conditions for DME synthesis process were obtained: reaction temperature at 240°C, reactor pressure at 5 MPa and reactor diameter of 2.5 m.

Development and demonstration plant operation of an opposed multi-burner coal-water slurry gasification

摘要: The features of the opposed multi-burner (OMB) gasification technology, the method and process of the research, and the operation results of a pilot plant and demonstration plants have been introduced. The operation results of the demonstration plants show that when Beisu coal was used as feedstock, the OMB CWS gasification process at Yankuang Cathy Coal Co. Ltd had a higher carbon conversion of 3%, a lower specific oxygen consumption of about 8%, and a lower specific carbon consumption of 2%–3% than that of Texaco CWS gasification at the Lunan Fertilizer Plant. When Shenfu coal was used as feedstock, the OMB CWS gasification process at Hua-lu Heng-sheng Chemical Co. Ltd had a higher carbon conversion of more than 3%, a lower specific oxygen consumption of about 2%, and a lower specific coal consumption of about 8% than that of the Texaco CWS gasification process at Shanghai Coking & Chemical Corporation. The OMB CWS gasification technology is proven by industrial experience to have a high product yield, low oxygen and coal consumption and robust and safe operation.

Application of gamma-ray attenuation technology in density measurement of a slurry reactor

摘要: Axial density profile of the gas-liquid-solid mixture in a slurry bubble column was measured by gamma-ray attenuation technology. Several measures for improving measurement precision were presented based on the discussion on attenuation law. It was found that the response frequency and the ray intensity should be as high as possible to improve the measurement precision. The mass absorption coefficient depended on not the object’s thickness but the location where the object was placed between the ray source and the detector. The results showed that the density in the column decreases with the increase of column height, which indicates that the measurement by gamma-ray attenuation is reasonable.

Advances in the slurry reactor technology of the anthraquinone process for H

摘要: This paper overviews the development of the anthraquinone auto-oxidation (AO) process for the production of hydrogen peroxide in China and abroad. The characteristics and differences between the fixed-bed and fluidized-bed reactors for the AO process are presented. The detailed comparison indicates that the production of hydrogen peroxide with the fluidized-bed reactor has many advantages, such as lower operation cost and catalyst consumption, less anthraquinone degradation, higher catalyst utilization efficiency, and higher hydrogenation efficiency. The key characters of the production technology of hydrogen peroxide based on the fluidized-bed reactor developed by the Research Institute of Petroleum Processing, Sinopec are also disclosed. It is apparent that substituting the fluidized-bed reactor for the fixed-bed reactor is a major direction of breakthrough for the production technology of hydrogen peroxide in China.
